Operation Updates - 10/4/07 - 2:00 PM

This was the angel nurse Mandy that God sent to take care of Quan during his surgery!

We had some fun clowns stop by to cheer Quan up!

Rachael came to visit last night...

The gang's all here...
From Rob...

Well, things have been better today versus yesterday. He's certainly not himself but no crying fits from the pain like yesterday. Keep in mind he's still getting Motrin and Tylenol 3 with Codeine on a rotation basis. He slept good last night except for being restless and having his vital signs taken every 4 hours. He had to sleep with arm splints on so that he did not touch his mouth while we weren't looking. We didn't put the splints on until after he was asleep.

I left mid morning to go get his siblings who have been dying to see him. So now all 8 of us are awaiting the doctor to come by so he can hopefully say hasta la vista. One of the nurses on this floor has also adopted from China so we've been swapping stories. We also saw a family friend last night that we haven't seen in years. She used to be Rachael Amick but now she's married so it's Rachael Rabb. She used to babysit our kids years ago and now she's all grown up working as a nurse at Children's. Man we're getting old.

Just checking in on Quan; glad to see he is doing o.k. I thought I would share with you some of my experience with Quan. He was a happy little guy with that good stuff in him; he smiled at everyone the whole way back to the O.R., as everyone told him how cute he is. When I had to put him down on the table, he whined some, but then went to sleep quickly. Different story when he woke up; not very happy. But, as we walked to the recovery room, I was talking to him and rubbing his sweet head and he would open his eyes, look at me, and stop crying for a few seconds. When we got to the recovery room, I did not want to leave that precious boy! He did not like the tast of the blood in his mouth. Someone got us a washcloth and I told him to stick out his tongue; he did and I would wipe the blood off of his tongue. He kept looking at me, right in eyes. Then he gave me the sign for "all done". He wanted to all be all done. It broke my heart. We cuddled for a minute and then I had to tear myself away to go back to the O.R. and get ready for our next kiddo. I'm sooo glad that I got to meet you guys and take care of this special child. I want you to know that I cared for him as if he were my own (I have a 2 year old, too!). When Quan comes back to have his lip worked on, I'll be there with open arms!! I'll be looking for the updates on that. Thank you for allowing me to take part in your journey. May God continue to bless you all.

Oh wow - that post from Quan's nurse made me teary-eyed! How special!
Anyway, I'm glad Quan has that behind him and am praying for all of you in the weeks ahead. He looks happy sitting there with his brothers and sisters. I'm sure they'll motivate him to be "back to himself" soon!
love, DeEtte

Thanks, Mandy, for posting about our sweet Quan! I know that he has been on quite a journey. He certainly didn't look himself when i got to see him this afternoon. I hope those arms thingies help keep his hands out of his mouth!
Love and Hugs,
