Six Months Home with Candace!

How did we celebrate? By doing something she's been wanting to do for a long long long long time.

Before

After!

We did get permission from her plastic surgeon to do this. He was all for it! This is my first child to take to get her ears pierced who didn't scream and cry! I've always had my girls' ears pierced EARLY. I have to say, it was neat to see it done with a daughter who has been begging and who was ALL SMILES! She may not have cried...but I did!

Here's the fam watching intently... Colby and Clay were SO excited to be in this store, by the way! NOT! But what sweet brothers to support their sister! LOVE THAT!

I remember a post of yours from way back when you were early in the paper chase for Candace, and I think it was Carly who made a comment about her ears looking like they could be pierced. How totally cool to see that happen! What a beautiful and brave girl.

I LOVE how your family supports each other! It is SUCH a blessing. We are SO trying to cultivate that in our family...but lately...it seems like all we have is competition! SIGH!!! We're working on it! In the meantime...thanks for the little glimpses of Hope and vision that we see in your family! Yall are an inspiration! Can't believe it's already been 6 months home with candace! WOW!!! Love you guys! Let us know for sure about July. If we don't do the reunion...we want to go ahead and make other plans for that weekend!! Thanks!
Love ya,

Yay for Candace!! She looks pleased as punch, that's for sure!!
We had to let Nina's grow closed again, as she was tired of my messing with her infected ear lobes. Oh, well, maybe in a few years she'll want it for herself. I admit, I really wanted it FOR HER the last time *lookingashamed*
Love the audience!!

I LOVE the pictures. Candace is as cute as can be, and I really, really like the second picture. Everyone is so intense and serious. I showed my husband, and he really enjoyed it!

I want to request that you do a post about outside friends. I know that you homeschool and that your kids are very close to each other, and it makes me wonder whether or not you encourage sleepovers and spending a lot of time with other kids at their homes. (I really do have a purpose for asking this...) When I raised my older boys, they played with neighborhood kids, and everything was really pretty nice. We were stay at home moms who kept an eye on each others kids and had many of the same values. That was in the 80s, and so much has changed since then. I am trying hard to build relationships between the girls and maybe de-emphasize spending so much time at other kids homes. Keep in mind that I do NOT live in the Bible belt, and since most of my neighbors are my age, there are few kids around. Many of the girls' classmates do not share our values, even though the charter school they attend is fairly strict. I don't mind kids coming over here, but I really hesitate about returning the visits. Am I just acting like an "older" mom, or are my fears legitimate in your opinion? (Please tell me the truth.) I would love to hear from you on this, and I wanted to post here because I think other parents would be interested in your thoughts. You do such a great job of parenting such a large family. Thanks, Laine!

She looks so happy!! Oakley's already asking to get hers pierced -- I just can't decide. My Mom made me wait until I was 13 so I have that age stuck in my head. I know it's crazy .... but I see it something else I'm going to take care of. I know .... crazy!
