Refreshment...

We all need a break sometimes. Let's face it. We are not super-people and God did not create us to be super-people. He created us to NEED Him. Everyday.

Sometimes a break from everyday life is what He provides.

A chance to re-group.

reflect....

remember what really matters.

Sometimes you just have to say yes to pure,

crazy fun!

Everybody needs laughter...(Brad you're such a great sport)

...and kindred spirit friends (hello New Day friend!)

We should all MAKE the time to hang out with each other.
(Thank you Kylie and Mrs. E)

It's okay to splurge on ice-cream now and then.

(We missed you, Clark family.)

and putt-putt too.

Relish each other.

Squeeze someone tight.

Take that risk...

Time away makes the weather not even matter.

It provides the time to do things you normally would never do...

...and spend time that you never seem to have.

You might see something you've never seen before.

There's a first time for putting your feet in the sand....

...and realizing that even though it feels weird, it sure is fun!
Breaks from the daily grind provide opportunities for relationships to bloom.

Or learn something you've never known.

Dance unashamedly in the sand.

God created rest for us. It energizes.

It gives you a chance to work and play together. Making not just sand castles, but memories.

Whether you're at the beach or in the mountains..(or in our unusual case--BOTH!)..

...you can spend time in the Word, not having to finish your quiet time quickly, no thoughts of what you have to do that day....

...enjoying time around the table with no schedule...

in a cabin in the mountains decorated in glorious 1970's mushrooms...

God provides what is best for us at the proper time. His timing is perfect, if we will only wait on it.

With God, nothing is impossible.

A family retreat provides fresh opportunities to hold on tight to each other--to buddy up more--and to support one another in every new adventure.

You just gotta throw caution to the wind every now and then and eat a little peanut butter fudge.

And maybe some foot-long corn dogs.

Soaring to big heights does something for the soul.

The thrill of the ride is not ever taken for granted.

Who couldn't love a hot tub full of kiddos?
(Where are yall, Miller family?)

Escape to the mountains and you get a rare chance to see a real bear, digging through some poor cabin renter's garbage. The looks on our children's faces were priceless. Memories.

Playing by the river,

doing a timely devotion about rivers of Living Water that will flow through us when we love others with God's love. His Presence was felt in the beauty of creation.

And now for the grand finale...let's hear it for the van. It pulled through for us, by the Grace of God! Up steep mountains, hairpin curves, long travel days...Carlie put it best when she said, "Well, the van has just about gained our trust back."
If you've forgotten why we lost our trust in the van, refresh your memory with THIS POST.

Oh my goodness Laine, what a beautiful post. Pictures of your whole crew together always make me tear up--God is so good. The picture of Quan and Kevin snuggled together in their matching fleece did me in. Priceless.

So thankful for your together time. Love the pictures, love your message--so very true!

Love you!

What wonderful memories. Such true wisdom on resting!
And can I tell you that while I LOVED seeing pictures of your precious children together, the one that brought tears to my eyes was the one of you and Rob. Your children are eternally blessed to have you two at the helm of the family, in it TOGETHER. Miss you guys much!

Oh, and the hot tub did look a little empty... ;)

WOW...what a way with words and beautiful pictures! I've just decided a need a break!
Two thoughts:
1. Not a vacation or break if the Clarks aren't there. I got somewhat teary-eyed while reading this.
2. KL is absolutely beautiful and turning into a woman! WOW.
LOVED this POST! Rejoicing with you in the Lord's grace and mercy - His love and your retreat!

Laine! I rarely have found a moment when I pop in here and your family doesn't put a huge smile on my face and bring joy to my heart. I agree with everything you said except ONE thing. You indeed ARE Super-People. God is giving you the grace to be, but regardless you are!!

Love and miss you, friend!
